This place is a Pompano landmark. It isn't much to look at driving up but your taste buds will smack you if you drive by it after eating here. They have the freshest fish prepared to perfection. Their sandwiches (cutters) at lunch are the perfect meal!!
The service is very efficient as they know how to get you in and out for lunch!
Last time I was there, the special was a ground shrimp burger... let that sink in for a minute... Shrimp, chopped up and formed so nicely into a patty, cooked in a skillet and served on a bun. I'm not sure how it didn't fall apart, but it didn't and it was fantastic. If this is on the board, I would highly suggest giving it a try.

I have been to this neighborhood gem a few times over the years and it never disappoints. On this visit, I brought some clients to have a lunch meeting. I started with the conch chowder which was seasoned perfectly. We each had fish but prepared differently. Mine was grilled and seasoned with salt, pepper and lemon. One can argue that it's not that hard to prepare fish but I have had my share of poorly prepared fish. This place has it down to a science. Our service was great and everything went extremely well. I will return for another visit for dinner where I can enjoy a few beverages as well.

Blackened Swordfish was amazing! Dolphin (mahi mahi) awesome too! Peas and rice very good, fried plantains were okay. Plantains were a little soft but still good! Wine prices were good, especially for the area. Prices are slightly high but that's to be expected for a fish place and portions are great for the price! Save room for the double coconut pie and/or the mango coconut cheesecake! These were by far the best desserts I've ever had! You can tell everything is made with love!

I don't know why I took so long to check out this Pompano gem! Well, it was probably the location, but I should have known better that sometimes hidden gems are found were least expected. Calypso is in a run down strip mall next to a Laundromat, the location is not appealing at all, even my S.O. asked if there was maybe another place we could go before we walked in. The restaurant inside is nice and clean. The bar is long and roomy, and the dining room is small but comfortable. The bartender was very friendly and it was obvious this was a local favorite as most of the staff knew of the customers by name. The diners at the bar were very friendly and quick to suggest several things for us to try. Calypso also has a wonderful selection of beer including Guinness and Magic Hat on tap - sold! My S.O. loves this place!
We had the bbq wings which were perfectly cooked, large and meaty. My S.O. had the Conch Chowder and Peel and Eat Shrimp and he said it was outstanding. I had the Smoked Pork Cutter which consisted of smoked pork seasoned in a bbq and jerk sauce, I had it with the peas and rice - it was delicious. They have several seasonings available and will accommodate any special request. I am not big on seafood but it was obvious from the plates around us that the seafood at Calypso is the specialty and very fresh.
We stopped in for a beer and a quick bite, my S.O. said he can't wait to go back and try more of the seafood, and I can't wait to try some more of that delicious smoked pork! I may try the dinner portion next time and I will make sure to make room for the tempting homemade desserts.
If you’re looking for a terrific fish lunch or dinner, you’ll find it at the Calypso. We bring all of your out of town guests here and we have always had terrific food and service! Always Awesome!
We’ve lived in Ft. Lauderdale for 23 years and have never found a restaurant that compares to Calypso when it comes to high quality seafood. We always enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and walk away plenty full.
There’s not a restaurant in south Florida that can compete with Calypso. From the appetizers to the homemade desserts, everything is just excellent.
My wife and I were visiting from New York and asked our local friends where to go for great seafood. I have to say that The Calypso was one of the finest seafood restaurants we have ever been to – and we’ve done a lot of traveling!
My daughter was looking for a place to have a baby shower for her best friend. She wanted something different, but not at a country club setting. When we found out she could have the entire restaurant for her party, we told her about it. The girls had a wonderful luncheon and thoroughly enjoyed being able to leave all the cooking and cleaning to someone else!
My husband and I are new to Pompano. We had heard about the restaurant and decided to give it a try. Wow! We’ll be visiting it again and again. We love seafood and know we’ve found a great place.
Excellent food and terrific service. Lora and Chuck put their hearts into their restaurant and you can tell. I try to go at least once a week. Plus, it’s healthy!
